The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority released names of five development companies that will compete for a contract to help design, construct and operate a public transit line between the San Fernando Valley and West L.A., and ultimately to LAX.
Metro said the following companies met qualifications to submit a Predevelopment Agreement (PDA) proposal. Up to two firms awarded with the PDA will assist with project planning and design, construction approach and financing.
- ACS Infrastructure Development, a Spanish civil engineering construction company
- LA SkyRail Express, group with Chinese transportation manufacturer BYD known for its monorail design similar to one championed by the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association
- Sepulveda Transit Corridor Partners (Bechtel), a Virginia-based American construction group
- Sepulveda Transit Corridor Partners (Fengate), a North American real estate and infrastructure investment firm
- Tutor Perini, Parsons & Plenary, a general contracting corporation based in Sylmar, California
Metro’s designs for the Sepulveda Transit Corridor Project have been narrowed to an entirely underground subway or partially above ground aerial train. Total project costs could reach $13.8 billion, according to July estimates.
Metro is set to receive $9.5 billion in funding from transportation sales tax Measure M, which voters passed in 2016, along with other local and federal sources for the project. The first leg, between Sherman Oaks and Westwood, is scheduled for completion in 2033.
