Metro-North no longer accepting cash for tickets - CTPost

Starting on St. Patrick’s Day, Metro-North said it will no longer accept cash for fare payments on trains or at ticket counters.

The announcement made Tuesday morning said will it only accept accept credit and debit card payments for tickets transactions.

“We also urge customers to use MTA eTix, the fast and easy way to pay directly from your smartphone,” it said.

The change is intended to reduce hand-to-hand contact to stop the spread of COVID-19.

“A top priority of Metro-North is keeping our customers and employees safe, and we are taking all measures possible to prevent the spread of COVID-19. That's why we are disinfecting our stations two times a day, sanitizing our trains daily and performing a complete cleaning of our trains every 72 hours.”

Metro-North also announced that in line with the New York state guidelines so that customers and employees are not potentially exposed to the virus, on Wednesday it will temporarily close the following station ticket offices: Bronxville, Croton-Harmon, Mount Vernon East, New Rochelle, North White Plains, Port Chester, Rye, Tarrytown and White Plains.

As a further precaution in reducing hand-to-hand transmission, Metro-North's Lost and Found Office, which is located on the lower level of Grand Central Terminal, will be closed until further notice as of Tuesday.

If you have left an item on the train or in one of our stations, please file your initial claim online here.
