TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Topeka Metro partnered with Dillons today to "Stuff the Bus" and help defeat hunger.
The community was invited to the Dillons at 21st and Fairlawn to donate cash and non-perishable food items.
They then loaded the donations onto a Topeka Metro Bus that will benefit project Topeka.
Last year, they collected 2,467 pounds of food.
Topeka Metro says the "Stuff the Bus" event has been a long-standing tradition of theirs that impacts many families.
"There are very in need of this food because at the end of the month your short. So this helps out a little bit as much as it can stretch out until the next month comes along. They've been waiting a long time to put that Go Chiefs up there and hopefully their going to do great in the Super Bowl and Go Chiefs," Union President, Efram Mazas of Local 1360 said.
100 percent of the food collected will stay in Topeka and Shawnee County.
