SCHOFIELD, Wis. (WAOW) -- Saturday morning friends, family and the community said their goodbyes to a retired Everest Metro Patrol Captain who passed away.
James "Jim" Vercimak retired in 2011, he is described as kind and understanding, qualities that made him a beloved officer. But, after a doctor visit in 2018, Jim was diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer. He passed away at home on February 3rd, 2020, surrounded by his wife and children after a courageous battle with cancer.
During an interview with News 9 on November 5th, 2019 Shane Heilman, Captain for the Everest Metro Police Department said,"as a lieutenant, [Jim] was one of those guys who was always keeping track of us."
Jim loved serving his community as a police officer and will be greatly missed by family, friends, and the community.
